Wet blocking is one of the most simple actions you can take with your knitting, and it is key to finishing many projects. Pieces based on stockinette stitch (where you knit across on one side and purl across the other), for example, need this step in order to lie flat. All that you do is fully submerse the piece, and let it soak for 15 minutes or so. Then pull it out of the container you had it soaking in, and carefully lay it out into the shape you would like it ultimately to be.

Place your project in a container large enough to completely contain it, and then add enough water so that it can be completely submerged:

After at least about 15 minutes, making sure the piece is thoroughly saturated, lay it fully out flat:

Press as much water out as you can, and then leave undisturbed to dry.

If the piece is small enough, you can lay it out on a towel, roll it up, and squeeze as much water out as possible before unrolling it and leaving it out to dry overnight or longer until it is fully dry.
