Simply pick up a skein of yarn, and follow the steps in this video to roll it into a ball. Balling your yarn is incredibly easy, and quickly pays dividends in how much easier the yarn is to handle (no more mid-project tangles!) as you’re knitting. It also makes maintaining tension so much easier.
This is also a convenient way to get a feel for the yarn — pay attention to things like slickness, sturdiness, and evenness. It’s also a fun way to get others involved even if they don’t themselves learn knitting. My mother and aunt both enjoy contributing by doing this for me! A small thank you for projects I’ve given them. This is also something simple enough that you could get anyone, even kids, involved if they’re curious about your new hobby.
